Health Informatics

Letter from the Department Chair

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) program at Jacksonville University. Serving JU as both a faculty member and Department Chair of the MSHI program, I strive to develop a rigorous program with practical applications in the health informatics field.

Health Informatics is an evolving field that focuses on health systems structure and operations and secondary data and technology system design for efficient clinical care. Health Informatics combines computer science, information technology, process improvement, and healthcare administration. Nursing Informatics is a similar field with a focus on patient safety and the quality of care of patients, whereas Health Informatics focuses business and population health focus complying with regulations and improving hospital outcomes.

I am committed to providing a positive culture and a program with diverse faculty and students, evolving health informatics concepts, and practical industry standard applications. We align the program with the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and the Commission on Accreditation of Health Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM) curriculum standards and support a collaboration with Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

We look forward to having you as a JU Dolphin and part of the MSHI program!
