Position Summary

Jacksonville University, ranked as a Best Regional University by US News & World Report, invites applicants for a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure accruing position for Director of Clinical Education in the Master of Science in Respiratory Care (MSRC) program. The successful candidate will organize and manage clinical rotations for the MSRC program within the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences (BRCHS). In addition, the successful candidate will participate in faculty activities (teaching, service, and potentially research), as well as being responsible for the coordination of clinical faculty and staff professional development in MSRC.

Duties/Responsibilities

Oversight of Clinical Rotation Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the MSRC Program Director
  • Establishes goals and objectives for the programs’ clinical rotations
  • Organizes clinic rotations, assign students, and assure that clinical competencies and associated records of clinical experiences are completed
  • Fosters communication with clinical faculty and staff through meetings and/or consultation
  • Coordinates the evaluation of students, clinical faculty, and clinical sites
  • Ensures that feedback from evaluations is provided in a timely manner and action plans are written to address deficiencies
  • Ensures that students are oriented to the Policies and Procedures of the facility in which they are assigned
  • Maintains records for completion of clinical competencies and evaluations associated with clinical rotations
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate clinical affiliate agreement with clinical sites
  • Assists with coordinating community service programs

Faculty Responsibilities:

  • Effectively teaches assigned courses
  • Promotes evidence-based practice
  • Serves on Departmental, College, and University Committees

Participates in the program’s or Department’s clinical practice.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Dean

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provides continuing education to Respiratory Therapy staff
  • Assists with completion of Respiratory Therapy staff competencies

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Instruct, professionally communicate, and demonstrate skills techniques to healthcare students.
  • Self-directed, have computer proficiency that includes the knowledge necessary to develop case scenarios and simulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate students in the teaching/learning lab environment.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching techniques and curriculum development.
  • Skill in facilitating development of student problem solving skills.
  • Ability to design effective learning activities for students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
  • Role model professionalism and maintain professional skills lab environment for students.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, and Experience

  • An earned master’s degree in respiratory care, health sciences, education, management or in a related field
  • At least four years of experience in the field; two of which must have been on the faculty of an accredited respiratory care educational program
  • Demonstrated abilities in teaching, student advisement, committee service, management, and administration
  • An earned doctorate in a field appropriate to providing academic leadership for the MSRC
  • Demonstrated participation in relevant professional associations
  • Demonstrated leadership in organizations or societies related to the profession

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and scientific equipment
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
  • Able to lift and turn objects up to 90 lbs. without physical restrictions
