Position Summary
The Department of Health and Exercise Sciences in the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences at Jacksonville University invites applicants for a 9-month, tenure-accruing position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor in Health Science. The Department is seeking a faculty member with expertise in health informatics and public health.
Essential Job Duties
- Develop and teach core courses in the Health Sciences undergraduate program and researchbased courses cross-listed with the Exercise Science undergraduate program
- Teaching load consistent with faculty in the department
- Courses needed to be taught include, but may not be limited to the following: HLSC 320- Introduction to Health Informatics, HLSC 310-Healthcare Ethics and Policy, HLSC 410-The Healthcare System, HLSC/ES 412-Public Health, HLSC 205-Statistics for Health and Exercise Sciences, HLSC 330-Principles of Research and Evidence-Based Practice, HLSC 499/599-Senior Seminar
- Develop research portfolio, reflective of a tenure earning faculty member, in the Health Sciences
- Develop service portfolio, reflective of a tenure earning faculty member, including committee work at the University, college, and department level
- Mentor students and collaborate with faculty
Prerequisites Required for Position
Minimum Education Requirement:
- Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in Health Informatics, Public Health, or a related field is required
Minimum Work Experience:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written form
- Teaching experience in a college setting
- Computer literate
- Experience in a university environment
- Ability to effectively relate to students of diverse ages and backgrounds
- Demonstrate knowledge and good judgement in matters of college policy and procedures
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills in the areas of collaboration, team participation, creative problem-solving, conflict resolution, group planning and decision-making processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience in higher education
- Knowledge of Health Science curriculum, accreditation, and CHES certification
- The following degrees/certifications are valued: MPH, CHES certification
Work Conditions
- Work is performed under minimum supervision and requires incumbent to exercise independence and discretion
- Some evening and weekend work/travel is required
Physical Requirements
- Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and scientific equipment
- Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
- Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
