Position Summary

Full-time, non-tenure track position of Clinical Assistant Professor in Aeronautics. Additionally serve as a full-time associate administrator of the School of Aviation, primarily responsible for coordinating recruiting efforts and providing services to existing aviation students. The goal of this position will be to assist with the growth of the program and retaining students.

Essential Job Duties

Faculty Responsibilities:

Normal teaching load will include 18 hours over the fall, spring, and summer terms consisting of aviation science courses taught under Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 141 to support our flight operations program. Other duties include tracking student progress in flight program and conducting at least one evaluation flight per course each semester. Additional responsibilities will include student advising, professional development activities, and university service activities.

Recruiting:

Serve as the enrollment coordinator for the School of Aviation and collaborate closely with Jacksonville University Admissions Office. Assist in growing our degree programs through aggressive student recruitment techniques. Recruitment requires personal interactions with prospective students and families. Manage all incoming/outgoing communications with new aviation students. Coordinate campus tours with the Admissions Office. Manage the Aviation Ambassador program and coordinate scheduling of airport tours. Participate in university-wide recruiting events.

Communication:

Coordinate closely with key university offices to facilitate all stages of the recruiting process, including Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Advising Center. Collaborate with L3Harris Flight Academy in joint recruiting and marketing initiatives. Establish new networks for recruitment and maintain solid working relationships with guidance counselors, industry professionals, community organizations, and Jacksonville University.

Student Services:

Serve as the student services coordinator for the School of Aviation. Assist incoming students with selection and registration of first semester Ground school and flight classes. Manage the Aviation Internship Program, including coordination with sponsors and students. Coordinate guest speakers for the program year round. Serve as advisor for one of the student aviation clubs on campus. Collaborate with our aviation advisory board as ex-officio member of the recruiting and marketing committee.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and valid FAA Flight and/or Ground Instructor Certificate to teach any FAA ground schools (Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor, Flight Instructor-Instrument).
  • Relevant aviation industry experience.
  • Prior experience teaching FAA ground school courses in a collegiate setting will be considered a very positive complement to the minimum qualifications.
