Position Summary

Develops and implements internal and external recruitment activities, public relations, marketing and communications, as related to student admissions and recruitment. Coordinates with University departments to involve them in these activities. Implements University policies and guidelines for Admissions. Responsible for the management of Admissions application processing and communications.  Manages admissions counselors and processors in day to day activities in consultation with the Chief Admissions Officer.  Meets regularly with Director of Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Enrollment Marketing and other relevant departments to review and improve processes and performance.  Consults with the Chief Admissions Officer and oversees implementation and analysis of strategic enrollment initiatives. Supervises the Admissions Officers.

Essential Job Duties

  • Coordinating, developing, and implementing University recruitment and communication plans with the Chief Admissions Officer for graduate and undergraduate schools. Student recruitment activities include, but are not limited to:
    • Researching and identifying target high schools or feeder colleges and developing travel plans for admissions counselors
    • Identifying and developing off campus recruitment activities for admissions counselors (open houses, fairs, community agencies, civic organizations, and businesses)
    • Overseeing the development of on-campus recruitment activities
  • Evaluating applications for admission to the University assuring that minimum admissions requirements are met.  Assisting in development of admissions decision matrices and strategies.
  • Overseeing Admissions Office day to day operations including applications processing and communications.
  • Incorporating JU initiatives in the recruitment process, ensuring a system is established to track and monitor students, conversion and marketing efforts.
  • Coordinating with the Chief International Affairs Officer on international student application processing including I-20's, SEVIS reporting, status reports, etc.
  • Assist Chief Admissions Officer in supervising and evaluating staff.
  • Implementing and monitoring systems through established admissions policies and procedures.
  • Monitor applications via statistical reports and developing follow-up strategies designed to increase student yield.
  • Initiating the development and review of Admissions materials; such as, written correspondences, electronic communications, admissions applications, admissions publications, etc.
  • Assisting in other areas of enrollment management as required, and working collaboratively with the other staff members.
  • Actively supporting the mentoring and professional development of the admissions team staff and help identify opportunities for continued learning.
  • Working actively with other areas of the University to ensure a spirit of university-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork.
  • Providing flexible, responsive, and high quality customer service to all clients: students, community, faculty, and staff; and continuously assessing and revising processes and procedures to comply with University, State, and federal requirements, and national standards for admissions and recruitment operations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Special Skills

  • Experience working with student information and recruitment CRM systems
  • Experience working in integrated enrollment management environment (financial aid, enrollment marketing, academic advising, admissions).
  • Experience with digital recruitment strategies and analytics
  • Experience with enrollment analytics and strategy
  • Experience with electronic communications and recruitment.
  • Strong technology and technical skills.

Work Conditions

  • Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings, conducting campus tours, or being off-campus.
  • Standard office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Attendance at evening and weekend events is required
  • Off-campus, state and regional travel is required
  • Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and, carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone

Prerequisites Required for Position

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree (master's degree, graduate degree highly preferred).

Minimum Work Experience

  • At least five years in a comparable management position, directly managing employees or volunteers and 3+ years in senior management (Director level or higher) in an Admissions Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (master's degree, graduate degree highly preferred).
  • At least five years in a management position, directly managing employees or volunteers.
  • 3+ years in senior management (Director level or higher) in an Admissions Office.
  • Experience supervising classified and professional staff members, strong supervisory skills, and the ability to interact effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working with an integrated student information system.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills, and public speaking experience.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead staff to inspire teamwork and achieve established goals.
