Job Summary
The Department of Education at Jacksonville University seeks applicants for a visiting
faculty position in Education. Full-time faculty members at Jacksonville University
are expected to teach undergraduate
and/or graduate classes, conduct scholarship and engage in professional development
activities, and complete university and/or community service.
Responsibilities: Develop and teach undergraduate level English as a Second Language (ES OL/TESOL) courses; or to develop and teach Reading/Literacy courses to include a reading lab, supervise school-based field experiences, and advise undergraduate students. Capabilities to teach both ESOL/TESOL and Reading is a plus and especially, being prepared to familiarize students with the Science of Reading.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Teaching—a typical l0ad is 24 hours annually
- May engage in research/scholarship
- May supervise student research projects
- May supervise student internships
- Participate in university service at the department, school, college, or university level
- Participate in community service (optional)
Required Skills/Abilities
- Preferred earned terminal degree in Education.
o 18 graduate hours or equivalent life experience teaching developmental
processes of early, emergent, and adolescent reading/literacy; or
o 18 graduate hours or equivalent life experience teaching second language
acquisition - Classroom teaching experience to include elementary school and university levels
- Valid teaching certificate in elementary education
Willingness to gain mastery of State of Florida teacher certification requirements in Reading and ESOL.
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Research involving undergraduates or other engaged learning experiences is expected.
- A record of active engagement in scholarly activities, professional development, and service to for a university and community while aiding the department in its efforts to maintain its programs as per the University’s strategic plan.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience
- Terminal degree in education preferred
Physical Requirements
- Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
- Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and virtually.
- Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
- Stamina to teach up to 24 hours weekly.
