Job Summary

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Health Sciences at Jacksonville University invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-accruing position for an Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences & Disorders for our Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program and our undergraduate Communication Sciences and Disorders courses. The Department is seeking faculty members with expertise in the area of pediatric speech and language disorders. This position is a remote teaching position and will involve a combination of teaching in a primarily distance education program and teaching with ground based cohorts.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None. 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach courses in the area of communication sciences and disorders
  • Conduct research and engage in scholarship in the area of communication sciences and disorders
  • Provide service in the area of communication sciences and disorders
  • Assist with and support clinical experiences in the academic setting (e.g., simulations)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean(s)

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Effective instructional abilities, ability to professionally communicate and demonstrate skills/techniques to communication sciences and disorders students
  • Self-directed, have computer proficiency that includes the knowledge necessary to develop case scenarios and simulations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of effective teaching techniques and curriculum development
  • Skill in facilitating development of student problem solving skills
  • Ability to design effective learning activities for students
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience

  • Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field required
  • Speech Language Pathology certification highly desirable
  • Prior teaching experience at undergraduate and/or graduate level

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications, computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
