Job Summary
Primary responsibilities are to oversee all aspects of Division I Track and Field program including, but not limited to, coaching, scheduling, recruiting, travel arrangements, budget management, student-athlete development, fundraising and other duties assigned by the the Athletic Director or designee. Candidates must be committed to the academic and athletic success of the student-athletes.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Assistant track and field coach(es) and graduate assistants
Duties/Responsibilities
Overseeing all of the following duties as assigned:
- COACHING – Responsible for:
- Implementation of short term and long term training plan.
- Coordination and communication of daily practice schedule/lineups with coaches and SA’s.
- Tracking and monitoring progress and development of team members.
- Safety for S-A’s and coaches
- SCHEDULING – Responsible for:
- Schedule of all practice and competition.
- Submitting schedule to Finance and Compliance Office for final approval prior to initiating contracts.
- Coordinating and submitting practice schedule to athletics operations.
- Coordinating training plan with strength coach, athletic trainers, and class schedules of SA’s.
- RECRUITING – Responsible for:
- Compliance with NCAA recruiting rules and completing associated paperwork in a timely
manner. - Passing NCAA Coach’s Recruiting Test each year.
- Initiating phone calls, emails, visits with prospective S-A’s.
- Coordinating and making arrangements for unofficial visits.
- Recruiting students who will be an asset to the University and Department of Athletics
and graduate in a timely manner
- Compliance with NCAA recruiting rules and completing associated paperwork in a timely
- FINANCIAL AID- Responsible for:
- Understanding NCAA regulations.
- Consistently updating team rosters.
- TRAVEL – Responsible for:
- Initiating process for all travel arrangements and submitting reports within 48 hours of return.
- Scheduling/reservations of hotel rooms, bus travel, and air travel for competitions.
- EQUIPMENT/APPAREL – Responsible for:
- Assist Director of Cross Country/Track & Field and Assistant Coaches in care and maintenance of all equipment, apparel, and facilities.
- ACADEMICS - Responsible for:
- Supporting all JU Athletics policies on classroom attendance, study halls, progress reports, and enforcing disciplinary actions.
- FUNDRAISING- Responsible for:
- Getting prior approval from the supervisor prior to initiating a fund raising activity.
- Communication with alumni and parents to develop future donation opportunities.
- Being available for departmental fund raising activities.
- Following guidelines established by department, university, and the NCAA for fundraising
activities.
- PAPERWORK- Responsible for:
- Completing all paperwork by established athletic department and NCAA guidelines.
- MEETINGS – Responsible for:
- Attending and contributing to all Department of Athletics meetings and requested functions.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I Rules and Regulations.
- Mastery of the sport of distance running.
- Ability to safely drive a 15 passenger van.
- Ability to lead, guide, and direct volunteers, and student-athletes.
- Willingness to form relationships with constituents, and fundraise.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience
Minimum Work Experience:
- Collegiate experience as coach or athlete
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
- Proven recruiting and fundraising abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.

- Must be able to physically perform essential job duties or have special accommodations arranged in advance.
