Position Summary

This position will teach undergraduate courses in Stein College in the following areas of audio production: studio recording, mixing, music production, sound reinforcement, sound for visual media, acoustics, immersive sound, or other audio production areas. This position will train students using the JU recording studio, and maintain new technology in the recording studio, STEAM, Terry Concert Hall, and Swisher Theater. This position will work with faculty to produce professional audio recordings for their portfolios.

Essential Job Duties

This position will hold a primaty appointment to the Department of Music with additional teaching outside of music as assigned. Full time load will also include management of the recording studio and the record label, Dolphinium Records. 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to teach, train, and work with students in both the classroom and in professional experiences with faculty.
  • Ability to manage new and existing technology in the recording studio, Terry Concert Hall, and Swisher Theater. 

Work Conditions

  • Primarily indoors except when traveling between campus buildings
  • Some off-campus travel may be required
  • Work is performed under minimum supervision and requires incumbent to exercise independence and discretion

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, and Experience:

  • Masters degree in Sound Engineering or related field.
  • Experience teaching college level students in the areas of audio and live performance sound.
