Position Summary

Jacksonville University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Music to begin August 2023. Qualified candidates will teach applied lessons (on their primary instrument), courses in all music degree programs, and direct large and small ensembles in the band program which may include Wind Ensemble and Athletic Band. The ideal candidate will also have experience in commercial and contemporary styles of theory and composition and/or experience in music technology. 

Essential Job Duties

  • Teach courses in music and contribute to curriculum development, review, and management.
  • Advise, mentor, and track the curricular needs of all students involved in music programs.
  • Collaborate within the department and with cross-curricular areas such as film, media arts, and theater arts.
  • Recruit and attract high-quality students for the music program.

Work Conditions

  • Primarily indoors
  • Some off-campus travel may be required

Physical Requirements

  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone 

Prerequisites Required for Position

  • Earned doctorate or equivalent professional experience required; ABD considered
  • Experience as an ensemble director
  • Experience in applied instruction
