
Education in Northern Italy Venice, Bologna, & Venice, Italy
During this 10 day Summer program, students will journey to Italy’s breathtaking Reggio Emilia region for a deeper understanding of how its school system’s innovative approach to education has inspired countless teachers around the world.
Immerse yourself in local culture as you visit two of the world’s oldest universities, engage with Italian educators and students, and gain insight to Reggio Emilio’s evolving and influential educational methodology.
This course will be linked to EDU 487, a Spring 2024 Semester course. Students will complete 15 hours of Service Learning, then travel to Italy just after graduations to complete the course.

- EDU 487: Study Abroad Service Learning: Exploring Educational Systems Duval County, FL and Northern Italy (3 credits)
- Students must be enrolled in EDU 487 for the Spring 2024 semester
- Complete 15 hours of Service Learning
- Course fulfills JU's Experiential Learning (EL) requirement

Tentative Itinerary
Day 1 (May 13): Fly overnight to Italy
Day 2 (May 14): Meet Field Director, enjoy dinner in Padua
Day 3 (May 15): Tour of Padua, including Basilica di San Antonio, Prato della Valle, University of Padua, take train to Venice
Day 4 (May 16): Travel to Bologna, take tour including Piazza del Nettuno, Basilica di San Petronio, Palazzo Comunale, University of Bologna
Day 5 (May 17): Attend lecture on Italian educational system, visit local school in Bologna
Day 6 (May 18): Visit Loris Malaguzzi International Centre
Day 7 (May 19): Cultural food activity, travel to Florence
Day 8 (May 20): Tour of Florence including Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, Basilica of Santa Croce, Gates of Paradise
Day 9 (May 21): Meet with local teacher in Florence, visit local school
Day 10 (May 22): Depart for USA
