Student Support FAQs

My student called me anxious and upset, where can they find help?

The Student Counseling Center is available to all students and offers in-person or virtual appointments. Students living on campus can reach out to their Resident Assistant (RA) or their Residential Life Coordinator (RLC). An RA is a fellow student leader while an RLC is a full-time staff member. You can find your student’s RLC here . In an emergency, students should call 911 and contact the Office of Campus Safety & Security at 904-256-7585. If you would like to communicate non-emergency concern for your student to our Dean of Students office, you can do so through the CARE form, available to parents, students, faculty and staff. Lastly, all undergraduate students are assigned a Thrive Coach. This is full-time staff member acting as a bridge to campus resources. You can find your student’s Thrive Coach here.

How can my student get involved?

Students can learn about campus events and student organizations through their Suitable App. The Office of Student Engagement & Leadership is here to help students navigate getting involved. Their office is in the Moran Center, and students are welcome to stop by! Students can also learn more about current Intramural Sports through our Office of Recreation & Wellness.

IT Questions

Where can my student go for computer support?

Students can contact the IT Help Desk by phone at (904) 256-7200, by e-mail at helpdesk@ju.edu, or online at www.ju.edu/it.

Should students bring a computer to campus with them?

All current and incoming students must own or have access to a laptop computer and/or other appropriate technology to adequately support access to course work.

To better support students with this requirement, this fall we will launch the Technology Assistance Program, which will help ensure students have the technology and digital tools they need, such as laptops and software. This new program, along with planned upgrades and improvements to Information Technology infrastructure on campus this summer, will enhance students’ ability to succeed in a modern learning environment.

Wi-fi is available in our student residences, classrooms, study and recreation buildings. We have also included outdoor areas to allow people to take advantage of our great Florida weather.

Campus Life FAQs

Where can I learn about campus safety?

Jacksonville University is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our entire campus community. We have an Department of Campus Safety and Security staffed with Security Officers who service the campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also have a partnership with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, which provides JSO officers who patrol campus periodically.

Our campus is gated. In the evenings and on weekends, all traffic entering campus is directed through the main entrance where a Campus Security Officer is located. We encourage students and their families to download the JU Mobile Safety App available through the Android and Apple app stores.

Do residential students pay to do their laundry?

Botts Hall, Williams Hall, Oak Hall, and North Hall have a laundry room in each building free for residents. The Village Apartments offer a washer and dryer in each apartment.

When are the school breaks?

The Office of the Registrar keeps a full list of all important dates from school breaks to exam schedules, to tuition payment due dates. Students and their families can check out the Academic Calendar.

Can students bring cars to campus?

Yes, students can bring their cars to campus. Parking is free for all current students. Academic FAQs

How do I find out about my student's grades?

FERPA, the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, is a federal law regarding the privacy of student records and access provided to those records. If your student is 18 years of age or older, you do not have access to his or her grades. All students can access their course grades through My JU, the university's online student information system. Students can complete a FERPA form online (Student Authorization to Release Education Records to a Third Party) through their MyJU portal to grant a parent access to their records. For the full Student Records policy, please go to our FERPA Information page or review this brochure from the Department of Education. Questions regarding FERPA may be directed to the Registrar's Office.

What services are provided for students who are having academic difficulty?

The Matt & Alexis Kane Student Enrichment Center is the university’s centralized hub for academic advising and student support. The Enrichment Center is designed to ensure every student has the connection, guidance, and resources they need to thrive throughout their JU experience.

Our team of professional Thrive Coaches serves as the primary academic advisors for all undergraduate students. They provide proactive, personalized support—beginning before the first semester and continuing through graduation.

Additionally, the Center for Student Success provides tutoring and helps students develop good study habits, and the Writing Center helps students become stronger writers.

How can my student find out his or her remaining requirements needed for graduation?

Students may make an appointment with an advisor in the Student Enrichment Center to review their degree progress at any time during their four years. They can also use our online Countdown to Graduation website for a checklist of to-dos before graduation.
