Building Access

Access to campus buildings and grounds is a privilege extended to students, faculty, staff, and authorized guests. The University encourages an open environment with limited constraints to ensure the reasonable protection of all members of the community. Normal operating hours for nearly all non-residential buildings are from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Unmonitored usage of facilities during non-operating hours is discouraged. Individuals who wish to access buildings or property during non-operating hours or for special events should make arrangements with the proper University officials before they need access. Arrangements can be made through the Division of Financial Affairs' Facilities Coordinator. The Facilities Coordinator in turn will place the event on the campus calendar during normal business hours to arrange for access and unmonitored usage. Persons observed inside buildings will result in the summons of law enforcement to investigate. For safety reasons, always contact the Campus Security Department to notify them of your presence on campus before accessing buildings or offices during non-operating days or hours. Buildings and classrooms not occupied or utilized will be secured by security personnel to reduce opportunities for theft, criminal mischief, or other crimes.

For access to individual laboratories or workspaces, an Access Request Form must be completed and submitted to the Campus Security Department. Do not attach class lists or other material to the authorization form.

Getting a Key

Persons requiring the issuance of keys to work spaces or buildings must make the request through their department head. Keys are issued once the key authorization form is completed and signed. Please report any lost or stolen keys to the Campus Security Department immediately. All keys must be returned to the University's locksmith upon voluntary or involuntary separation from employment. Please see University Policy Section 300/1.5 Security; University Keys.
