Statement on U.S. Executive Order on Restricted Travel

January 30, 2017

To the JU Community,

Jacksonville University is committed to providing a welcoming, engaging environment for its vibrant and talented international community. We support the rights of our students from other countries to receive an excellent education here and to flourish in their pursuit of knowledge and career advancement. The University is committed to and greatly enriched by the open exchange of ideas among students and scholars from all over the globe.

The United States Presidential Executive Order of January 27, 2017, has suspended entry into the United States for non-U.S. citizens from the countries of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

More information on this Executive Order as it relates to higher education is available from NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

For those faculty, staff and students who could potentially be affected by this Executive Order, we advise that you defer any travel outside the U.S. for the time being, if at all possible.

We want to assure the JU Community that we are reaching out personally to all students, faculty or staff potentially affected. Nevertheless, if you have been affected by this Executive Order or if you have concerns about travel plans for yourself, your family, students or employees, please contact either Dr. C.K. Kwai, Chief International Officer (ckwai@ju.edu), or Dr. Kristie Gover, Senior Vice President of Student Affairs (kgover1@ju.edu), or call our International Student Services Office at (904) 256-7067.

Our international students, faculty and staff are valued members of our University community. We are continuing to monitor this highly evolving situation and will keep the University community updated as more information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Tim Cost
