Experience One Spark

April 9, 2014

Dear JU students, faculty, and staff:

Innovation, entrepreneurship and investment – three words highlighting the world’s largest crowdfunding festival: One Spark. Today through Sunday night, Jacksonville is again one of the most exciting venues on the planet and a true international destination.

One Spark is a walkable, cultural celebration within downtown Jacksonville. Artists, entrepreneurs and innovators will display projects in a 20-square block, multi-venue gallery. Each night the parking lot of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce will transform into the One Spark After Dark Party. Nightly concerts, nationally renowned DJs, and food trucks highlight this event. Last year, more than 150,000 attendees from all over the world visited during the week.

I am pleased to announce that JU will provide free transportation to One Spark via water taxi service from campus to the Jacksonville Landing on April 11, 12 and 13. You can board the water taxi at the JU docks near the Marine Science Research Institute and take the scenic ride downtown. To view the water taxi schedule and register, please visit www.tinyurl.com/juonespark. Seats are limited and sure to fill up fast, so register now!

We are proud to have several JU participants in this year’s One Spark festival:

Physics professor Dr. Brian Lane will serve as a science juror.

JU student dancers will add some electricity to the opening night celebration and will perform in “Spaceshifts,” a collaborative art installation.

Our School of Education will present “Get Arlington Juiced,” an education venture in which JU students are placed in Arlington public schools to work with credentialed teachers to help local students excel in the classroom.

Computer science senior Wei He and alumnus Joseph Ryan ‘13 will present Linevent.com, a web platform for exclusive event specials.

I invite you to catch a water taxi and attend this wonderful event while offering encouragement to our JU participants. While at One Spark, be sure to cast your vote at www.beonespark.com/participate-voter.

Enjoy the event! See you there.

Sincerely,
