Honors Admission
Cost Honors College students have multiple entry points into Honors. Students may apply during the freshman application process, as a current JU student (at the end of your first semester or before completing 75 credits), or as a transfer student.
How to Apply
Incoming first-year and transfer students apply through the JU general admissions or common application. The Honors College has four essay options and students should respond to two of the prompts. The essay questions are provided within the Honors application. JU is test optional but test scores are required for the Honors application. To be considered for the Honors College, students must submit a completed application (including transcripts, test scores, and the Honors application) to the University by the application deadline.
First-year applicants with a 4.3 GPA and 1250 SAT/28 ACT will receive an automatic invitation to the Cost Honors College. You must accept that invitation to be fully admitted to Honors.
Students who apply to Jacksonville University and Honors before February 1, will be given priority review. Honors admittance is released on a rolling basis until May 1.
Incoming Freshman applications are only accepted to start in Fall semesters.
How is my Honors application reviewed?
The Honors College admissions process is highly competitive. During the review process, readers are looking for highly-motivated, intellectually curious and socially responsible students who show an interest in our program, engaging in the Honors community, serving the community, and completing an internship and/or research project. Honors College readers carefully evaluate rigor of coursework, grades, essay, extracurricular activities, and demonstration of curiosity. Readers consider quality of engagement over sheer quantity, applicant's self-awareness and reflection on extracurricular involvement, and an application's authenticity.
When will I find out about my Honors admission?
Honors decisions will be sent by email on a rolling basis, beginning in December.
How do current JU students apply to Honors?
The Honors College provides an application pathway for current JU students who have <75 credit hours. First-year, first-time students can apply after their first semester is completed and a GPA has been recorded. The application opens on December 1 and closes on March 1. All admitted students will start in Honors in the fall.
Applicants must have a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher. Competitive applicants have a 3.7 GPA or higher.
