I am Dr. Wayne Mier, Resource Professor of Distance Learning and Online Learning Specialist for the Nathan M. Bisk Center of Professional Studies at Jacksonville University. I teach Medical Terminology online and work with faculty and students regarding all thigs distance learning.

I started my career in healthcare as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist. I received my BS degree in Healthcare Management from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. After many years of working in critical care, diagnostics, and hospital education I earned my MEd in Adult Education & Distance Learning from University of Phoenix. Developing a passion for education I then moved to proprietary education where I worked in senior academic leadership and taught respiratory therapy and computer science classes. I then received my Education Specialist degree and PhD in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University. My dissertation study was investigating the Use and Effectiveness of Principles Learned in an Online Faculty-training Program.

My primary research interests include online learning, faculty development, online retention, and student advising. Working at JU has provided me the opportunity to work with students, faculty, and my areas of research interest.
