Dr. Wayne Mier is the Applied Health Sciences Advisor & Online Learning Specialist and MSHI Adjunct Professor at Jacksonville University. He started his career in healthcare as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist. He received his BS degree in Healthcare Management from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. After many years of working in critical care, diagnostics, and hospital education he earned his MEd in Adult Education & Distance Learning from University of Phoenix. Dr. Mier was also an intragyral part of the electronic medical record implementation, electronic medication administration team, and patient safety committee. Developing a passion for education Dr. Mier then moved to proprietary education where he worked in senior academic leadership and taught respiratory therapy and computer science classes. He then received his Education Specialist degree and PhD in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University. His dissertation study was investigating the Use and Effectiveness of Principles Learned in an Online Faculty-training Program. His primary research interests include online learning, faculty development, online retention, and student advising. Working at JU provides Dr. Mier the opportunity to work with students, faculty, and his areas of research interest.
