Dr. Ellen Kappus is an Assistant Professor of ESOL and Reading Education in the College of Arts and Sciences. She has a BA in French from the University of Michigan, a MA in TESOL from New York University, and a doctorate in Literacy Education from the University of Wyoming. After more than 20 years of teaching English as a Second language at university and public schools, she is dedicated to improving outcomes for students challenged to read and communicate in English. 

Her research interests are Multifaced Vocabulary Instruction the Vocabulary and Language Enhancement Projects (VALE) and English Language Development instruction. Additionally, she is creating relationships with teachers in Jacksonville's schools. These relationships enhance the JU pre-service teacher education and link evidence-based practices to classrooms.
