Why is President Tim Cost stepping down as President?
President Cost made the decision to move into the role of Chancellor after more than 14 years of leadership. He believes now is the right time to shift his focus to external engagement, where he can best use his talents and relationships to strengthen Jacksonville University’s future.
What will President Cost’s role as Chancellor involve?
As Chancellor, President Cost will dedicate his time to building and deepening JU’s relationships with alumni, donors, corporate and civic leaders, and community partners. His focus will be on creating new opportunities for JU students and advancing the institution’s strategic priorities through external engagement and philanthropy.
Who will lead the University after President Cost transitions to Chancellor?
The University plans to conduct the customary search for Cost’s successor under the direction of JU’s Board of Trustees. Details about the succession plan and presidential search will be forthcoming.
How long will the Interim President serve?
The Interim President will serve until the Board determines the next steps for long-term leadership. The Board is committed to ensuring stability and continuity throughout this period.
Will this affect day-to-day operations at JU?
No. Classes, student services, faculty research, and daily campus operations will continue as normal. The transition is designed to be seamless, and our commitment to students, faculty, staff and partners remains unchanged.
How will students be impacted?
Students will not see disruption to their academic programs, advising, activities, or support services. The Interim President and University leadership will remain focused on providing an outstanding student experience and ensuring access to opportunities in and beyond the classroom.
How does this affect alumni and donors?
As Chancellor, President Cost will continue building connections and advancing philanthropic efforts, strengthening the University’s engagement with alumni and donors. At the same time, the Interim President will provide strong operational leadership. Both roles work hand in hand to sustain JU’s momentum and expand opportunities for the future.
How will the University community be kept informed?
The Board of Trustees and University leadership will provide updates through official communications, the JU website, and campus forums. Additional resources, including updates and FAQs, will be posted at ju.edu/president.
