Do you have an idea for how we can become healthier, or do you know about something we're already doing that we didn't know about? Let us know!
Jacksonville University values the natural environment in which we learn, work, and play. From our LEED Gold Marine Science Research Institute and solar photovoltaic panels to tankless hot water heaters and water bottle filling stations, we strive to reduce our carbon footprint, as well as our usage of natural resources.
Our single-stream recycling program makes it convenient to recycle all across campus. We recycle our used printer toner and ink cartridges through a special program in which the proceeds benefit local non-profits.
Styrofoam-Free Dining Services
Students enjoy Chick-fil-A on-campus, but you won’t see them savoring their milkshakes in the characteristic Chick-fil-A Styrofoam cups. Jacksonville University worked with Aramark, our campus dining services provider, to go completely Styrofoam-free. Foamed polystyrene takes over 450 years to breakdown in our landfills and recycling of this material is not widely available. Go ahead and enjoy that peach shake!
Locally Sourced Produce
Located in the Sunshine state, Jacksonville University takes advantage of the long growing season and abundance of local farms through our partnership with Aramark. It is a priority to purchase, as much as possible, seasonally available produce within a 250-mile radius.
