Artis Gilmore’s legacy at Jacksonville University is one of transformational impact, national recognition and enduring pride. As the driving force behind the historic 1970 NCAA Championship game appearance and one of the most dominant players in college basketball history, Gilmore elevated JU onto the national stage and created a standard of excellence.
Known as the “A-Train,” his record-setting career, leadership and continued commitment to the University helped define an era of achievement and pride, making his impact not just a moment in history, but a legacy that lives across campus. Honoring him with a permanent statue ensures future Dolphins will always remember the player who helped shape Jacksonville University.

This initiative is already in progress, with Lee Nimnicht making a leadership gift to drive the project to completion. Jacksonville University is seeking additional supporters to help bring the A-Train statue to campus.
Supporters who contribute $25,000 or more will be acknowledged as founding partners and will receive special recognition, including a commemorative mini statue and an exclusive dinner with Artis.
Supporters who donate between $10,000 and $24,999 will be recognized as founding partners of this tribute, with their names permanently displayed on a plaque next to the statue. This provides a lasting tribute to the leadership and generosity of those who contributed to preserving and celebrating a significant legacy in JU history.
