Vaccination Policy

Students

Jacksonville University students are not required to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, but it is strongly recommended. Getting vaccinated is the responsible and right thing to do to protect yourself and our community. If you have questions about the vaccines, we have answers. Learn more.

Faculty & Staff

All Jacksonville University faculty and staff who work on campus at Jacksonville University or at any learning site or facility operated by Jacksonville University are required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and must get their first shot (or their single shot) by August 20, 2021. This timeline supports our goal of having all faculty and staff fully vaccinated by October 1.

Research has overwhelmingly shown that immunization with a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine is the best way to reduce COVID-19-related illness, hospitalization, and death.

To report your vaccination to the Office of People & Culture, please complete the online reporting form. If you have previously reported your vaccination but did not share documentation of it, you will need to complete the reporting form one more time and include a picture or scan as proof.

The University makes this critical policy decision with your health and safety top of mind. Based on age alone, many of our faculty and staff are at-risk of serious illness from COVID-19 or the current Delta variant, if unvaccinated. A growing body of scientific literature shows all three vaccines are safe and effective in preventing severe symptoms - even against the Delta variant. Learn more about the vaccines.

The University will consider exceptions for medical or religious reasons, with documentation and in line with CDC guidelines. Exemptions must be requested by August 20, 2021.

  • Who should not take the vaccine based on medical conditions
    • To apply for a medical exemption, please complete the exemption request form. Please include a letter from your doctor on their professional stationery confirming that you should not receive a vaccine due to a medical condition.
  • Religious exemption
    • To apply for a religious exemption, please complete the exemption request form. Please include a notarized letter from your faith leader or clergy member on letterhead associated with your body of worship.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Note

Jacksonville University recognizes that mandatory vaccination requirements may place undue burden on communities of color and those with trauma related to historical and contemporary experiences with medical care. We are relying on your compliance as we work to keep our communities safe. We have made efforts to remove barriers to care such as cost and access and follow the most rigorous scientific evidence available when providing and recommending healthcare to students. If you have questions or concerns about any aspect of the vaccination process, please reach out for support.
