Community Health Outreach
Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences is working collaboratively with Community Health Outreach to fulfill a state grant from the Florida Association of Free and Charitable Clinics to expand primary care and mental health services for the uninsured. Dr. Erica Schroeder is a family nurse practitioner and JU alumni. She joined the nursing faculty in November 2016 and is providing primary care services at CHO three days a week. Dr. Whitney George is an Assistant Professor with the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at JU and is providing mental health counseling services at CHO four hours per week. Another CMHC faculty member is expected to join the team in the upcoming months to assist with additional service provision.
Baptist Health System and St. Vincent’s Healthcare Collaboration
Jacksonville University collaborates with the Baptist Health System and St. Vincent’s Healthcare to provide graduate nurse residency programs that directly improves graduate nurse critical thinking, skills and provision of care to the community. Service learning combined with nursing courses has provided preventative education to community agencies while also providing the JU students an opportunity to be actively engaged in their community.
Brooks Rehabilitation Collaboration
The Master of Speech-Language Pathology program has an exciting partnership with Brooks Rehabilitation. From the program’s inception in 2014, Brooks Rehabilitation has provided over 72 clinical practicum placements for students including inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing and home health, and outpatient settings. Students are gaining experience in the new Aphasia Center, the only one of its kind in the region. In helping to train the next generation of speech-language pathologists, Brooks Rehabilitation and Jacksonville University are contributing to the health and wellness of the Jacksonville community.
