2022 QSEN International Forum June 1, 2022 - June 3, 2022

The 2022 Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) International Forum will take place in Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, Denver, CO from June 1 – June 3, 2022. The Forum is designed to attract nursing leaders in academia and practice.

Conference Objectives

  1. Explore the alignment of the QSEN competencies and the new AACN Essentials
  2. Learn strategies for quality and safety competency integration into undergraduate and graduate curricula and practice settings
  3. Share innovations in education, professional development, and practice to enhance quality and safety in healthcare
  4. Disseminate quality and safety scholarship

 

Nominations for the Robert L. Wears Patient Safety Leadership Award

The Robert L. Wears Patient Safety Leadership Award honors a: (a) volunteer; (b) individual; (c) team; or (d) organization that has significantly impacted the field of patient safety through critical analysis, research, education or knowledge dissemination. 

Nominations must be received by January 3, 2022, 11:59 PM EST.

The 2022 QSEN International Forum in Denver, Coloradowill highlight "Aligning the New AACN Essentials and QSEN." Please submit your proposals for 90-minute workshops, or pre-conference, or concurrent sessions, or poster.

Abstract submissions should have the following focus:

  • Explore the alignment of the QSEN competencies andthe new AACN Essentials
  • Learn strategies for quality and safety competencyintegration into undergraduate and graduate curriculaand practice settings

Dr. WearsRobert L. Wears, Patient Safety Leadership Award

About the award

This award is named in honor of Robert L. Wears, MD, MS, PhD, for his pioneer work in patient safety. Dr. Wears was an emergency medicine physician who transformed the way investigators approach patient safety research. Described as both humble and brilliant, Dr. Wears provided mentorship and guidance to an array of healthcare providers pursuing careers in safety science. Dr. Wears served on the editorial boards of 10 major medical and patient safety journals and was a reviewer for 3 dozen more. An active researcher, he was a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine–Jacksonville, and held professorships at the Imperial College School of Medicine in London; the Institute for Health Innovation at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia; and the University of Southern Denmark.

2022 Robert L. Wears Patient Safety Leadership Awardees are Announced

Jacksonville, FL – March 4, 2022 – The awardees for the 2022 Robert L. Wears Patient Safety Leadership Award have been announced. Dr. Yanling Yu and Rex Johnson, co-founders of the Washington Advocates for Patient Safety, are the recipients in the Volunteer Category. Dr. Mary Dolansky, Director of the Hirsh Institute, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing and Associate Professor, School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University is the recipient in the Individual Category.

The awards, given annually by the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Institute Regional Center at Jacksonville University and the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, recognizes health care professionals and teams who work to advance the field of patient safety, develop and mentor future leaders and demonstrate excellence in leading interprofessional initiatives designed to improve quality and safety education and practice.

The award is named in honor of the late Robert L. Wears, MD, MS, PhD, for his pioneering work in transforming the way investigators approach patient safety research. Wears was an active researcher and a professor of emergency medicine at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville, where he worked for more than 20 years.

The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses project was founded to address the challenge of preparing future nurses with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to continuously improve the quality and safety of the health care systems within which they work.
