Who We Are & Who We Must Be

The Jacksonville University Culture of Inclusion

To our Jacksonville University community,

As our nation, cities, campuses, and families reflect on recent and tragic incidents in Charlottesville, it is my personal hope that we will move forward toward grace and goodwill. As a University community, if we simply denounce the practice of hatred, violence, isolationism, and racism, we have taken only the first step. Instead, let us move with purpose toward understanding, acceptance, and kindness.

At Jacksonville University, we recognize and celebrate our diversity of thought and action as a community, and we actively promote a culture of service, excellence, and inclusion. As President of this University, my alma mater, I am proud of the vibrant mosaic our faculty, staff and students represent—from all walks of life, dozens of states and countries, all races, ethnicities, genders, backgrounds and orientation. We thrive together.

Our hearts go out to those impacted by the senseless violence committed, not just last weekend in Charlottesville, but wherever hatred takes hold.

Let us do better.

Sincerely,

Tim Cost
