Bergman named Interim Dean of BRCHS May 23, 2018

To our JU Campus Community:

On May 1, 2018, Dr. Chris Sapienza assumed full responsibilities as Jacksonville University’s interim Provost and Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs. Following our Bylaws, and with deep appreciation to the college’s faculty and University academic leadership for their input, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Cheryl Bergman as interim Dean of the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences as of June 1, 2018. Dr. Bergman is a tenured professor and since May of 2014 has served as the Associate Dean of the Keigwin School of Nursing within the BRCHS. Dr. Bergman’s support of faculty mentoring and coaching and effective communication and collaboration has earned her the broad acclaim and respect of her peers across campus.

Prior to being appointed the Associate Dean of Nursing, Dr. Bergman was the Director of the Undergraduate Nursing program for eight years. Dr. Bergman completed her BSN at Kansas University (1981), an MSN and Adult Nurse Practitioner from University of Florida (1998), and earned her PhD from Barry University (2009). Her teaching areas of expertise include pathophysiology, emergency nursing, and transitioning from school into practice for pre-licensure students. She has been a part of the nursing profession over 37 years of nursing experience with her clinical expertise in emergency nursing, which remains a passion for her. Dr. Bergman has dedicated her research to exploring interventions to improve emergency department care for nurses, patients, and their families. Dr. Bergman continues to work to enhance students’ clinical experiences by collaborating with community clinical partners in establishing dedicated educational units at three local hospitals. Dr. Bergman is currently serving as a JU counselor for the local Sigma Theta Tau chapter, is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, a member of the Florida Association of Colleges of Nursing, a longtime member of the American Nurses Association and the Emergency Nurses Association, and remains a certified emergency nurse.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Bergman for her willingness to serve in this new role and for her leadership and years of dedicated service to our University.

Sincerely,

Tim Cost
