Phone Services

Employee Phone System

Jacksonville University’s telephone system runs on a Siemens HiPath 4050, and it provides phone service to the Residence Halls, Dorms, as well as the Academic and Support offices around campus.

JU also provides voicemail to Academic and Support offices, and to residents living in the dorms and apartments. Voicemail services run on Siemens Xpressions 3.0, which allows users to customize their boxes, and access voicemail directly from their room/office, or from off-site.

Emergency Phones

JU also provides several Emergency phone stations around campus. These phones are programmed to call Public Safety, and are located outside of the following buildings:

  • Apartments
  • Bartlett-Kinne
  • Council
  • Dorms
  • Gooding
  • Gym
  • Jogging Path
  • Merritt Penticoff
  • Visual Arts Annex
  • Marine Science Research Institute (MSRI)

Emergency phone calls can be made from any campus phone by dialing 911, or by calling Public Safety at x7585.

Phone Number Assignment and Calling Capabilities

Phone numbers distributed to residents at the beginning of the semester by the Residence Life Office. Each number is assigned according to its room number, so if you move to another room, your phone number will change.

Residents living in the dorms and apartments have unlimited calls for internal calls, 800 numbers, and local calls. Long distance calls can only be made with calling cards.

Repair requests and questions pertaining to the phone or voicemail system can be submitted by any of the following methods:

  1. Call x7200
  2. E-mail the Help Desk

When submitting a request be sure to include the following information:

  • Extension Number
  • Your Name
  • Your Building & Room Number
  • A brief description of the request
  • An alternate point of contact where we can reach you (i.e. email address, cell number)

*If you have no dial tone or static on all calls, make sure all connections are secure, including the line cord into the jack and the handset cord into the telephone. Also, try switching out the phone with a known working phone to ensure that the problem is not with the handset.
