Position Summary

The Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts at Jacksonville University is seeking applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Choral Studies.  This is a 9-month appointment with full benefits with a start date of August 15. The successful candidate will have a firm foundation in classical training with an eye towards the future of innovation in the field of choral music.  He or she will organize and direct up to three choral ensembles on campus as well as lead recruitment efforts and community outreach for our choral area. The ideal candidate will foster and forge relationships with secondary, post-collegiate, and community choral educators to advance choral instruction in the region. Additional duties will be determined based on the needs of the department and the expertise of the candidate.  These duties may include courses in theory/aural skills, musicology, music education, or studio voice.

This is an accelerated search.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.  The position will undergo a national search for a tenure track appointment during the 2019-2020 academic year.

Essential Job Duties

  • Direct up to three choral ensembles
  • Teach choral-related courses
  • Teach other music courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise
  • Participate in service to the College, University, and community, including recruitment
  • Engage in scholarly/creative activity leading to presentation, performance, or publication

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in music with an emphasis in choral conducting. ABD candidates will also be considered
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level with demonstrated success.
  • Secondary school teaching experience
  • Successful experience in recruiting
