Position Summary

The Department of World Languages, with the College of Arts and Sciences at Jacksonville University, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Spanish, peninsular Spain, tenure-track. Faculty positions at Jacksonville University require commitment to teaching, university service, and scholarship. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. by time of appointment (August 2020). 

Faculty in the Department of World Languages teach a wide variety of courses to support the core curriculum and both the major and minor programs. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester, which will potentially include all levels of language, literature, and culture. 

Essential Job Duties

  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish
  • Demonstrable evidence of excellence in teaching
  • An energetic commitment to working in a small, growing program

Prerequisites Required for Position

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Ph.D 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency-based instruction and interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching.
  • Experience in advising and/or in engaging students outside of the classroom (e.g., study abroad, service learning, and participation in research) is also highly desirable. 
  • Ability to teach languages other than Spanish or French may be of interest but is not required.
