Position Summary

The Department of Sociology at Jacksonville University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Sociology, position beginning August 2018. Area of specialization is open with a preference for candidates who have 18 graduate hours in sociology of health, race and ethnicity, psychology, or a related social science. The successful candidate will teach a regular load of four courses per semester, including a range of courses for majors and non-majors which includes sections of Introduction to Sociology. Candidates will contribute to the mission of the department, which emphasizes mentorship and exceptional instruction. The candidate will join a department recognized for its commitment to undergraduate teaching, mentorship and service.


  • Candidates must have completed Ph.D. by time of appointment in August 2018;
  • Strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, research and service;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills;
  • Some advising experience preferred;
  • Interest in teaching courses which contribute to our experiential learning focus (service-learning, research-intensive classes, overseeing undergraduate research projects or leading study abroad courses).
