Position Summary

The Department of Sociology at Jacksonville University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Sociology, position beginning August 2019. Preference is given for applicants with a specialty in the sociology of health, race and ethnicity, or globalization. The successful candidate will teach a regular load of four courses per semester, including regularly teaching Introduction to Sociology. Candidates will contribute to the mission of the department, which emphasizes mentorship and exceptional instruction. The candidate will join a department recognized for its commitment to undergraduate teaching, mentorship and service.


  • Candidates must have completed Ph.D. by time of appointment in August 2019;
  • Strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, research and service;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills;
  • Some advising experience preferred;
  • Interest in teaching courses which contribute to our experiential learning focus (service-learning, research-intensive classes, overseeing undergraduate research projects or leading study abroad courses).
