Position Summary

The School of Education at Jacksonville University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in K-12 Reading/Literacy Education.

Essential Job Duties

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level reading courses, develop and maintain a reading lab, supervise school-based field experiences, and advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Work Conditions

  • Primarily indoors except when traveling between campus buildings
  • Some off-campus travel may be required
  • Work is performed under minimum supervision and requires incumbent to exercise independence and discretion

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and scientific equipment
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone

Prerequisites Required for Position

Minimum Requirement 

  • Earned doctorate in Reading/Literacy including Reading Diagnosis and Assessment;
  • K-12 teaching experience with emergent readers, and the remediation of middle and high school students.

Preferred

Knowledgeable of Florida Competencies and Skills in Reading, experience working in a Reading Lab or similar clinical field work, at least three years of K-12 teaching experience, experience with teaching ELL learners, and the supervision of field experiences for teacher education students.

Rank and Salary

Assistant Professor (tenure track) at a salary commensurate with experience and other qualifications. Nine-month contract.
