Position Summary

Jacksonville University, ranked as a Best Regional University by US News & World Report, invites applicants for a for a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-accruing position for an Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders. The expected start date is August 2019. Preference will be given to an applicant with expertise in the areas of speech sound disorders or dysphagia management.

The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders is housed within the School of Applied Health Sciences in the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences. The program is home to 70 master’s students and 30 undergraduate students. With eight full-time faculty, the department has a strong reputation for innovative teaching practice utilizing simulated clinical experiences with manikins and patient actors. The program has clinical affiliations for student placement with over one hundred off-campus sites in the greater Jacksonville community.

Essential Job Duties

  • Develop and teach courses in the area of communication sciences and disorders at the graduate and undergraduate level
  • Develop research portfolio in the area of communication sciences and disorders
  • Assist with supervision in simulation labs
  • Mentor master’s thesis students
  • Provide service in the area of communication sciences and disorders

Work Conditions

  • Primarily indoors
  • Some off-campus travel may be required
  • Work is performed under minimum supervision and requires incumbent to exercise independence and discretion

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone

Prerequisites Required for Position

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field required.
  • Speech Language Pathology certification considered highly desirable.

Minimum Work Experience

  • Current academic teaching
  • Previous clinical experience highly desirable
