Position Summary

The Department of Health and Exercise Science in the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences at Jacksonville University invites applicants for a 9-month tenure-accruing position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor in Exercise Science. The Department is seeking a faculty member with expertise in nutrition. Ideally, the applicant would also have expertise in one or more of the following areas: 1) exercise physiology, 2) strength and conditioning, 3) fitness assessment and exercise prescription 4) certifications including ACSM Exercise Physiology and NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), 5) ACSM Exercise is Medicine curriculum and research. 

Essential Job Duties

  • Develop and teach courses in the Exercise Science and Health Sciences undergraduate program and Exercise Science graduate program
  • Teaching load consistent with faculty in the department
  • Courses needed to be taught include: EXSC 101-Introduction to Exercise Science, HLSC 205- Statistics for Health and Exercise Sciences, HLSC 221-Human Nutrition, EXSC 427/527- Nutrition for Physical Activity & Health, EXSC 460/560-Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription for Special Populations, EXSC 450/550-Resistance Training: Principles & Practice, HLSC 499/599-Senior Seminar
  • Develop research portfolio, reflective of a tenure earning faculty member, in the Exercise Sciences
  • Develop service portfolio, reflective of a tenure earning faculty member, including committee work at the University, college, and department level
  • Mentor students and collaborate with faculty

Prerequisites Required for Position

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in Exercise Science or a related field is required

Minimum Work Experience

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written form
  • Teaching experience in a college setting
  • Computer literate
  • Experience in a university environment
  • Ability to effectively relate to students of diverse ages and backgrounds
  • Demonstrate knowledge and good judgement in matters of college policy and procedures
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills in the areas of collaboration, team participation, creative problem-solving, conflict resolution, group planning and decision-making processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Knowledge of Exercise Science curriculum and accreditation
  • The following certifications are valued: ACSM EP, NSCA CSCS, Registered Dietician (RD)

Work Conditions

  • Work is performed under minimum supervision and requires incumbent to exercise independence and discretion
  • Some evening and weekend work/travel is required

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
