Position Summary

The Learning Technology Administratorworks directly with faculty to build and produce material and to select appropriate media and presentation tools for delivery through multiple modalities. This position will consult with faculty, instructional designers, and the video production studio to recommend and deploy engaging content through media and tools. The incumbent assists in the installation of system updates, upgrades, integrated tools, and other integrated software. The Learning Technology Administratoris also responsible for developing and delivering technical training to faculty in the use of tools for teaching online, hybrid, flex, and face-to-face classes.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide daily technical support for faculty, staff, and students, including support of Blackboard and other university wide teaching technology. 
  • Recommend delivery strategies that yield a rich, meaningful, and dynamic experience and are appropriate for multiple audiences. 
  • Work with faculty and course designers on online course development and design. 
  • Support and assist in the development of technology-driven instructional and courseware solutions. 
  • Provides resource information relating to new techniques and practices that relate to the use of technology and that enable students to use technology as a learning tool. 
  • Assists in enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational technology innovations into both online and ground-based courses 
  • Creates training materials to accommodate self-learners and provides resources for faculty.  
  • Assist in training faculty in the use of Blackboard and other instructional technology tools through face-to-face and online workshops.  
  • Assist with the creation, documentation, and training of LMS standards, policies and procedures; maintain data integrity rules and processes. 
  • Utilize LMS reporting and monitoring capabilities to develop custom reports to assist with planning and evaluation of effectiveness, compliance, relevance of training programs, institutional assessment, and data-driven decision making..  
  • Serves as an institutional administrator for Blackboard, Campus CE, and Starfish as needed. 
  • Respond to student and faculty phone calls and email regarding online issues with Blackboard. 
  • Responsible for the deployment of instructional (academic) technologies for operational use, such as, but not limited to Kaltura, Building Blocks, RestAPIs, etc. 
  • Work with faculty and course designers on online course development and design. 
  • May be required to perform other job related duties other than those specifically delineated in this description. 

Special Skills

  • Experience working in higher education, training or online teaching  
  • Broad-based knowledge and skill in operating a variety of software applications used in multimedia, courseware development and learning management systems (i.e. Blackboard, Collaboate, Articulate etc).  
  • Experience working specifically with the Blackboard.  
  • Ability to work and train in both PC and Macintosh environments.  
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, basic networking principles, web browser, email client, and integrated office suites and web-based development tools.  
  • Experience with query and report development and analysis (Blackboard Data). 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and ability to deliver effective oral and written communications. 
  • Record of professional development and training in emerging online learning trends, programs, and technology.  
  • Willingness to participate in special training programs and classes as required.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.  
  • Possess and demonstrate capacity for problem determination and resolution, specifically related to problems of a technical nature.  
  • Possess and demonstrate high attention to detail and ability to prioritize competing tasks and responsibilities. 
  • Possess and demonstrate excellent customer service, cooperation, and team working skills/abilities  
  • Position requires excellent dependability, integrity, and confidentiality. 
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Work Conditions

  • Standard office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Monday through Friday, with required evening and weekend hours, as necessary to accommodate professors’ needs or special events on campus, during the year.  
  • Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or being off-campus.  
  • Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighting up to 40 pounds 
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and reach 
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines 
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens 
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone

Prerequisites Required for Position

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree

Minimum Work Experience

  • 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred in instructional design, instructional technology, computer science or related field.  
  • Higher Education experience
