Jean Cocteau's 1946 classic, La Belle et la Bête, remains one of the best-known and best-loved French films of all time. Having directly inspired the later versions by Disney, it nonetheless remains much closer to the original French source material, written by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont in the 18th century. The film will be introduced by students in FREN387RI: "Fairytales of France."
