Archive: Hurricane Irma Update #4
Friday, September 8, at 7:45 p.m.
Changes Since Last Update
Little has changed since our update at 1:15 p.m. Small squalls have begun to come on shore periodically, but the bulk of the rain is not expected to start until tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.
We are not yet under a hurricane watch. A watch could be issued by the 11:00 advisory, but it will almost certainly be issued by the 5:00 a.m. advisory.
What’s the difference between a hurricane watch and a hurricane warning?
A “watch” means that hurricane conditions are possible within the specified area. Watches are issued 48 hours before those conditions are expected to begin.
A “warning” means that hurricane conditions are expected within the specified area. Warnings are issued 36 hours before those conditions are expected to begin.
