Dr. Brandy Gustavus joined Jacksonville University in February 2018 as Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Health Informatics. Brandy started her career in Healthcare as Medic in the United States Air Force in 1997 specializing in a mental health apprenticeship and has over 20 years-experience in the medical field. She received her MSCPM from Texas Tech University Health Science Center and BSHIM from Texas State University.
Dr. Gustavus completed her doctorate of health science in Global Health at A.T. Still University. Her doctoral dissertation research study focused on the relationship between educational delivery (online versus ground-based) and national certification pass rates of HIT accredited programs.
Dr. Gustavus is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and a Clinical Coding Associate (CCA) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). She is also an active member of AHIMA, American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC), North Florida Health Information Management Association (NFHIMA), Northeast Florida Health Information Management Association (NEFHIMA), and the Brazos Valley Medical Practice Management Association. She has experience implementing EHR systems at acute care hospitals and teaching facilities. In addition, she has experience as a clinical liaison, clinical coding specialist, operations manager, and was the administrator at Texas A&M University Health Science Center Behavioral Health and Neurology teaching facility.
Dr. Gustavus is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honors Society, Sigma Kappa Delta English Honors Society, Sigma Alpha Lambda National Honors Society, Texas State University Chapter,and the Golden Key International Honors Society. She also participates on a variety of health information technology advisory boards.
