Undergraduate Nursing Admissions

Thank you for your interest in the Keigwin School of Nursing at Jacksonville University. Please view the available pathways to enter the Nursing program and information on admission.

This track is open to incoming first time freshman who will graduate from high school.

Please apply for the Bachelor of Science in Pre-Nursing when completing your application and send your official transcripts and test scores to the Office of Admission to complete your application. Some students who have earned dual enrollment credit in high school may already have or be nearing completion of an Associate of Arts degree and are encouraged to apply to the Freshman Acceptance Option. Once the Admissions staff reviews your transcripts and test scores you will be offered admission to the Nursing program if space is available.

Fall Semester

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School GPA of 3.5 or above
  • B or better in Algebra II, Biology, and Chemistry
  • SAT score of 1100 on old SAT or 1170 on new SAT or ACT score of 24 or higher

If you do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Freshman Acceptance Option, you will be a Pre-Nursing major until you complete the lower division core curriculum and prerequisite requirements. You will then have the opportunity to apply for direct entry to the Nursing program via the Traditional Program once nearing completion of your requirements in your sophomore year, be aware of the application deadline dates for the Traditional Program.

Freshman Acceptance Option

This is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program that takes 28 months to complete and has a fall and spring start date available. Applicants need to meet the core curriculum and prerequisite requirements to be eligible for acceptance to the program. Applicants need to apply and send the required materials by the deadline of the entry term, late applications and materials will not be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum cummulative GPA of a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Satisfy core curriculum requirements
  • Complete 7 prerequisite requirements with a C or better

Course requirements may be in progress when applying to the program but need to be completed by the entry term of the program.

Options to satisfy the core curriculum requirements:

  • Associate of Arts Degree from a regionally accredited insitution
  • Modified Associate's Degree Policy: Applicants can satisfy core curriculum requirements with any type of associate's degree from a regionally accredited school as long as it includes the following coursework prior to the degree being conferred. Coursework required with a C or better: 3 credits English, 3 credits Math, 3 credits Science, and 3 credits of the following choices: History, Humanities, Philosophy, Fine Arts, or Internation Studies. Transcripts need to be reviewed and approved by the Office of the Registrar.

Please provide two professional references and one personal that is not a family member. The School of Nursing will begin reviewing applications, the review process takes 3-4 weeks and the most well qualified applicants will be invited to interview with the School of Nursing faculty. After the interview there will be an essay on a critical thinking topic and applicants will be given approximately 20 minutes to write a one page essay on the prompt provided.

Traditional BSN Program Estimated Cost of Nursing Program

This entry term is for students who have earned a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and have completed the required prerequisites.The Second-Degree Nursing program is accelerated and takes only 16 months to complete. When you submit your application, indicate that you are applying as a second degree seeking student. Applicants need to apply and send the required materials by the deadline of the entry term, late applications and materials will not be considered.

Summer Semester

Second Degree Accelerated Program Estimated Cost of Nursing Program

For applicants applying for MECP,STA-21, AECP, NCP or a similar commissioning track, Jacksonville University requires that you apply a year in advance to your anticipated entry term into the BSN program. You would need to apply for the Fall 2019 entry term if you plan to start the program in Fall 2020.

Applicants are encouraged to apply to the fall entry term because this is the only term where Jacksonville University's deadlines align with your officer commissioning program deadlines. If you apply to an alternate entry term, we will not be able to provide you with the necessary documentation to submit with your commissioning package in September. Late applications and materials will not be considered.

The Keigwin School of Nursing will review applications for students who have completed the interview and issue decisions and documentation in June. If you are accedpted to the program you will be provided with an acceptance letter and a degree plan.

Traditional Fall BSN Program Estimated Cost of the Nursing Program

Please note that Pre-Nursing is not a major, it is pathway for ​students who need to work on core requirements or take prerequisite requirements prior to applying for direct entrance to the Nursing proogram via the traditional program.

If you would like to take this coursework at Jacksonville University you can apply as a freshman, transfer, or second degree seeking student. Select your entry term. Freshmen will select Pre-Nursing as their major. Transfer or second-degree applicants will select Bachelor of Science in Nursing as your major and answer the prerequisite question indicating that you would like to take your core and prerequisites at JU. Applications are accepted for all entry terms. Please note that the summer term has very limited course offerings and not all of the prerequisites are offered in this term. Once nearing completion of the core curriculum and prerequisite requirements, you will apply for direct entry into the Keigwin School of Nursing through the Traditional BSN .

  • Desire to complete Jacksonville University's lower division core curriculum and the 7 required prerequisites to become eligible to apply for direct entry to the Nursing program at later date.

Once your application and official transcripts from each college have been received by the Office of Admissions a decision will be made within 2-3 weeks.

This set of instructions is for current Jacksonville University students who are Pre-Nursing majors who need to apply to the Nursing program. If you are in your last semester of completing the Jacksonville University core curriculum and the prerequisites you should apply for direct entrance to the traditional Program.

Traditional BSN Program

This entry is for applicants who currently hold a license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

There are 8 week course offerings offered in the evening at alternating satalite hospital locations. This program is convenient for licensed RN's who are working full time and wish to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
