Campus Student Services
Academic Advising - 256-7170
Founders Building, 10
Academic advising is an important part of the overall educational process at JU. Students are encouraged to establish personal contacts with their advisors throughout their college careers. Academic advisors promote interaction with students, assist with course scheduling and career planning, monitor academic progress, provide accurate information about educational requirements and procedures, and refer students to other campus services when necessary. All undergraduate students are urged to meet with their advisors at least once per semester to discuss their academic progress and to plan a class schedule for the next term. An advisor’s approval is required for initial registration and schedule changes. Students with fewer than 24 semester hours earned and those who are undecided about a major, are assigned a professional advisor in the Advising Center, Founders Building, Room 10. Professional academic advisors are available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. After students earn enough credit hours and have chosen a major, they are assigned faculty advisors within their major area of study. Students who are undecided about a major will stay with their professional academic advisor until a major has been selected. Services offered by the Advising Center include advising programs for students experiencing academic difficulty, the Early Alert System of identifying specific issues that impede a student’s success in a particular class, mid-term progress reports and long-term academic planning.
