Re-decorating can be a challenge—especially when it’s for someone you don’t know and of the opposite gender, but two sets of roommates from William and Botts Halls were up to the challenge. On November 16-18, 2007, the students traded rooms during a “Trading Spaces”-style event organized by the Residence Hall Association.
With a $200 budget for each room, Colin Gornall and Anthony Harris along with Meredith Kelly and Julie Patterson carefully accessed each others living space and style on November 17 and spent the next several hours at Target, buying everything from tissues to new comforter sets.
Kelly and Patterson upgraded Gornall and Harris’ room with floor seats, curtains, tissues, candles, two twin comforter sets, an area rug and a door mirror. Meanwhile, Gornall and Harris bought a 24x36 frame, storage cube, curtain, fold out chair, comforter sets, candles, a suede drawer, heater fan and floor lamp.
“The students were really excited about this new idea,” said Amber Davis, coordinator of residential life and wellness programs. “They wanted to make their rooms better and more personable places to live and were open to suggestions.”
The students were chosen by submitting a one page essay on why their rooms needed a make-over. For more information on the project, please contact the office of residential life at 256-7538.
