Jacksonville University offers a new Leadership and Learning Master of Education (M.Ed.) program designed to educate and develop effective future leaders for all types of organizations. Emphasizing self-awareness and interpersonal development along with the study of management styles and evolving financial management theories, you'll receive an education in leadership that will help you make a difference in the global marketplace.

A subject always in demand in today's challenging business environment, this Leadership master's offers in-depth study of leading theories and best practices that successful leaders employ to manage change and achieve organizational objectives. the outline of our curriculum integrates management and leadership theories with real-world applications.

The Leadership and Learning M.Ed. offers concentrations in three key areas:

  • Educational Leadership
  • Instructional Leadership & Organizational Development
  • Sports Management and Leadership

 

Educational Leadership
This concentration is intended for aspiring K-12 assistant principals or administrators seeking Level One certification, as recognized by the Florida Department of Education. The comprehensive curriculum is aligned with state and professional content standards.

Focused on leadership for instruction and school improvement, the program integrates guidance from expert practitioners with a blend of theory and practices, along with well-designed field experiences and supervised internships.

Educational Leadership concentration students must pass all sections of the Florida Educational Leadership Exam (FELE) in order to be awarded a degree.

 

Instructional Leadership & Organizational Development
Preparing you for a wide range of leadership roles across the for-profit, non-profit, education and government sectors, this program supports professionals whose work focuses on facilitating developmental changes in individuals, teams, or organizations.

This concentration is intended for those students who do not desire the Florida Educational LEadership Certificate but wish to obtain a master's degree and assume leadership roles in educational institutions.

Develop the skills required for coaching, mentoring and professional development in careers such as:

  • Lead teachers and small-learning community teachers
  • Club sponsors
  • Professional and staff development facilitators
  • Department chairs, student activities directors and outreach coordinators
  • Curriculum specialists and education directors
  • Directors of community involvement
  • Faith-based organization administrators

 

Sports Management & Leadership
The only program of its kind in the Jacksonville area, this concentration provides the opportunity to learn the leadership skill you'll need, along with the sports marketing and management background that will provide you with a significant advantage in pursuing a career in sports management.

The M.Ed. program's Sports Management concentration will prepare you for a variety of careers, including:

  • Athletic administration in amateur and professional sports (collegiate, Olympic and international athletics)
  • Entrepreneurial business in schools, the tourism industry, fitness centers and gyms
  • Corporate sport, such as management of health clubs and recreation facilities in real estate developments, and corporate fitness centers
  • Leisure and tourism, including management of destination resorts and recreational activities
  • Park and recreation administration in recreation centers, YM/YWCAs, cities and townships

From positions in athletic department administration to the executive levels of professional sports organizations, the program will help you reach your goal.

Program Structure
A cohort program set in an 18-month, 34 credit-hour format offers creative delivery options for you to further your education in a way that works for you. Hybrid, as well as online class formats, will be available in a combination of modular and stand-alone courses.
