FINANCE
Can you see yourself managing a stock portfolio from inside a trading room filled with real-time stock market data? At JU, finance students do this every year. The Global Investment Group does research, analysis and investment decisions for a six-figure endowment fund created just for student learning. Inside the new Davis College of Business, they work in the Trading Room, a specially designed facility that provides access to real-time financial data and computer technology. Here, students feel the pace and pressure of the financial world as they research companies and industries, then put their analytical skills to work buying and selling stocks.
It’s all part of the business college’s focus on the practical application of business theory.
The finance major includes a broad introduction to business fundamentals, including courses in ethics, communication and leadership. Students can then focus their major more by choosing a track in investment or corporate finance. Both tracks offer opportunities for applied and in-depth learning, led by experienced and knowledgeable faculty who are committed to your success.

Facilities and Resources
The new Davis College of Business building is the largest classroom facility on campus. Its wired classrooms (and wireless technology throughout) provide technologically advanced learning spaces. Each classroom has computer, DVD, and video projection systems that faculty use in lectures and students use in presentations. Two computer lab/classrooms, a Trading Room and a Behavioral Lab provide specialized learning space. The facility also has executive training rooms, conference space, breakout rooms, a student lounge and a small café. Business and finance students can get tutoring and extra help through the Math Lab, which is part of the Learning Resources Network.
Internship & Career Opportunities
The Davis College of Business offers internship opportunities for students in all major areas of study, including finance. Internships allow students to expand their education and skills, receive exposure to real-life experiences, and enhance their career opportunities while earning academic credits. More than 50 local and/or national organizations sponsor internships for Davis College of Business students.
The finance program at JU provides the basic foundations for entry-level positions in finance and administration in business or government. Such organizations include the banks, industry, investment houses, brokerage firms, real estate or insurance companies, and city or state governments. Graduates have taken jobs with Merrill Lynch, Intrepid Capital Management, Green Cove Maritime, Southtrust Bank, United Parcel Service (UPS), Banco Di Caribe, Smith Barney, and Hospice of North Florida.
