ACCOUNTING
The field of accounting is often divided into two parts: financial and managerial. Financial accounting is concerned with reporting the results of the operations and financial position of a business firm to those both inside and outside of the management of the firm, including stockholders. Managerial accounting deals with the techniques, controls, systems, and reports used internally by the managers of an organization.
The accounting curriculum at Jacksonville University is designed to provide a foundation for entry into either the financial or managerial areas of accounting. A license as a CPA for the financial accountant, or a CMA for the managerial accountant, or a CIA for the internal auditor are the frequent goals of an accounting student.
In addition to these professional opportunities, accounting students become excellent candidates for management positions in such areas a banking, investment houses, brokerage firms and others. Many of the major accounting firms are heavily involved in management consulting.

Facilities & Resources
The new Davis College of Business building is the largest classroom facility on campus. Its wired classrooms (and widely available wireless technology) provide technologically advanced learning spaces. Each classroom has computer, DVD, and video projection systems that faculty use in lectures and students use in presentations. Two computer lab/classrooms, a Trading Room and a Behavioral Lab provide specialized learning space. The facility also has executive training rooms, conference space, breakout rooms, a student lounge and a small café. Business and accounting students can get tutoring and extra help through the Math Lab, which is part of the Learning Resources Network.
Internship & Career Opportunities
The Davis College of Business offers internship opportunities for students in all major areas of study, including accounting. Internships allow students to expand their education and skills, receive exposure to real-life experiences, and enhance their career opportunities while earning academic credits. More than 50 local and/or national organizations sponsor internships for College of Business students.
The accounting program at JU provides the basic foundations for entry-level positions in accounting, finance or administration in business or government. Such organizations include the banks, industry, investment houses, brokerage firms, auditing or tax, city or state governments. A professional degree and license as a C.P.A. for the financial accountant, a C.M.A. for the managerial accountant, or a C.I.A. for the internal auditor are the frequent goals of an accounting major. Graduates have gone on to successful careers with the PGA Tour, Merrill Lynch, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte & Touche, the City of Jacksonville, Continental Insurance, AT&T, American Transtech and the U.S. Government Accountability Office.
