Every fall incoming freshmen are enrolled in a one-credit course called JU 101. This course is designed to be an experiential learning voyage where freshmen become responsible partners in their own educational journeys, learning and developing as persons and as students. In class and in their assignments students share their thoughts and ideas related to their triumphs and concerns of college life.
For the first time this fall, JU 101 is going abroad. We are excited to offer JU 101 in Costa Rica: Expand Your Expectations - Explore New Shores. The offices of Academic Affairs and Study Abroad have collaborated to offer a select number of freshmen the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica for one week, prior to JU orientation, as part of their JU 101 course. This international experience will compliment the learning outcomes for this course by introducing students to service learning, building relationships to help foster a successful academic career at JU, and focusing on many of the essential skills necessary to be successful.
