2012 Orientation Coordinators

Hi New Dolphins!
I'm your 2012 Educational Programming Coordinator, Courtney Jimenez. I am originally from Kissimee, Florida; maybe you've seen me serving Butterbeer at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Here at JU though, I am a Junior Communications major with a sequence in Print. I am also a writer for our JU Newspaper, the Navigator, so you'll often find me at on-campus events taking notes! My favorite thing about JU is the diversity and Greek Life. When you get involved on-campus,  you find there are so many things to discover and so many people to get to know. Being a part of Greek Life has helped me get involved and I know I'll always have my sisters to support me in whatever I decide to do.

Hey There Class of 2016!
My name is Kat Thomas and I am your Communications Coordinator. With the help of our awesome Coordinator Team, I'll be sending you emails, E-Newsletters and postcards all summer. I am originally from Bartow, Florida and am a Senior Political Science major. On campus you can often find me in the Career Development Center, where I serve as a Peer Advisor, or out and about showing potential new students the campus. I might have even given you a tour! I am also the current President of my sorority, Tri Delta. My favorite thing about JU is the opportunity to make personal connections with not only the students, but also the faculty.

Hi Everyone!
My name is VonHayes Switzer and I am the Marketing Orientation Coordinator. I am a Junior Physics and Engineering major from Ocala, Florida. I am a member of a social fraternity on campus, Sigma Chi, and a lifeguard at JU's very own outdoor pool! When I'm not catching rays, and looking out for swimmers of course, you can find me in our NROTC building. Feel free to direct NROTC questions my way! My favorite thing about JU is the tight-knit community. Professors know you by name and are always willing to help; at JU you are definitely not just a number. Coming in as a freshman, I was scared I would be lost in a sea of students, but with the ability to form personal relationships with professors and administrators, I feel right at home.

Hi Guys!
I'm Brittani Wyskocil, (it sounds like windowsill), your Community Development Coordinator. I am a Junior Theater major with a minor in Dance. I came to JU from Tampa, Florida. I am currently the President of JU's Panhellenic Association, the governing body for 4 social sororities on campus. My favorite thing about JU is the campus size. At JU, I have been able to take on leadership roles in a variety of different activities including Greek Life, New Student Orientation, and Dolphin Productions (our student programming board). I believe at JU both students and faculty know my name; I know I am not 'just another familiar face.' I love the number of opportunities I have been able to take advantage of, and I know I wouldn't be the same person I am today if I'd gone somewhere else.

In addition to the four Orientation Coordinators, we also have over 60 volunteer Group Leaders who will help guide you through the Week of Welcome, beginning with move-in on August 23, 2012. Please visit our site again soon to learn more about your Group Leader!

I lost some A's because I didn't work hard enough at the end of the semester.

Favorite thing about JU: I love how the whole school, people and campus wise, feels big but is still small.
Favorite Hobby: Horseback riding
One piece of advice to an incoming student: I know everyone says it but that is because it is the truth: the best way to start your freshman year is to get out there and get involved on your campus.  Join groups, leave your door open when you move in so you can meet new people, and most importantly, don't be afraid to talk to go up and talk to people that you have never seen before.
One piece of advice to a parent or family: This may sound a little harsh but just because your child is leaving it does not mean that they want to talk to you all day every day.  In my experience the more you try and contact your kids the less they want to contact you back.  That doesn't mean don't talk to them, it just means that let them talk to you, you don't always have to start the conversation.
