About JU

Jacksonville University - Getting the Big Picture.

Jacksonville University is a four-year private, comprehensive university situated in an idyllic setting on the banks of the St. Johns River, just minutes from downtown Jacksonville, Florida, and the Atlantic Ocean. The 190-acre campus includes a half-mile of riverfront, oak-lined paths, and a mix of historic and new campus buildings. But there's a lot more to JU than just a pretty campus. JU has a proven track record for challenging academics, a distinguished faculty and a perfect location that provides incredible cultural and recreational activities, along with service, internship and career opportunities.

With a balanced approach to coeducational higher education, JU combines the best attributes of the liberal arts and sciences tradition and professional studies. JU offers seven bachelor's degree programs and more than 60 majors, programs and concentrations, as well as esteemed graduate programs in nursing, business, education and orthodontics. The Adult Degree Program provides classes during evenings and weekends for nontraditional students. JU hosts one of America's largest Naval ROTC programs and a thriving aviation program.

The College of Arts & Sciences offers traditional liberal arts and science majors, nursing, education, and pre-professional programs. The College of Fine Arts has a variety of outstanding programs in art, dance, music and theater. The new Davis College of Business is one of the most modern and technologically advanced business schools in the South.

The strength of our programs is a function of the University's nationally recognized faculty, some who have won prestigious awards from the Carnegie Foundation, as well as honors such as U.S. Professor of the Year, Florida Professor of the Year and more. Classes at JU are comfortably sized (average 18 students per class), ensuring students meaningful interaction with their professors and each other.

The University promotes Engaged Learning throughout the curriculum. Students are encouraged to take charge of their own education and seek out experiential learning opportunities in the classroom, and also through research, service, student-centered activities and study abroad.

JU prides itself on diversity. Students are from Florida and the southeastern and northeastern United States. They represent 45 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and 50 foreign countries.

Athletics play a big part at Jacksonville University. We have 18 Division I athletic teams and nearly 400 JU students compete in an intercollegiate varsity sport. The athletic facilities include a ballpark overlooking the river, new tennis and softball complexes, plus a football, soccer and track & field complex.

The residential campus is alive with a variety of social, cultural, Greek, religious, performance and service organizations. The Kinne University Center and the new Davis Student Commons provide an array of facilities for students to enjoy campus life. Students live in residence halls and on-campus apartments.

With a scholarship program that awards students for previous academic achievements, more than 90% of freshmen receive scholarships at JU. The "sticker price" compares favorably with other schools, and the scholarship program makes the cost of attending very affordable.
