Whittum Named Enrollment VP

4/07/08

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Terry Whittum has been named Vice President of Enrollment Management at Jacksonville University.  His appointment will become effective May 1.

Whittum brings more than 25 years of experience in enrollment management, including undergraduate and graduate admissions, financial aid, nontraditional admissions, retention and distance learning. Most recently, he served as the senior vice president for enrollment management at Mercer University. At Mercer, he led a new division that consolidates responsibilities for admissions, financial aid and student retention.

“We are thrilled to have Terry join our staff,” said President Kerry D. Romesburg. “His experience in enrollment management is impressive, and we look forward to having his expertise and leadership skills as we take our recruiting efforts to the next level.”

Prior to his time at Mercer, Whittum spent nearly five years at Stetson University where he served as associate vice president for enrollment management and dean of financial aid. He was directly responsible for all activities associated with new student recruitment, admissions and financial aid.

From 1994 to 2002, he served in a number of enrollment management leadership positions at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Under his leadership, new student enrollments increased each year, engineering enrollments reached record levels, the academic profile improved and the geographic diversity of the class increased.

“I am very excited about this opportunity and look forward to joining an outstanding team at JU,” said Whittum. “Jacksonville University is a great school with limitless potential and I can’t wait to help let the community know just how much it has to offer.”

Whittum is also a senior associate consultant in enrollment management for Noel-Levitz, the largest enrollment management consulting firm in the nation. He has worked with institutions ranging from large state “flagship” universities such as the University of Tennesse and West Virginia University, to small private colleges such as Shorter College, Lenoir-Rhyne College and Buena Vista University.

He holds a bachelor's degree in music education from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire and a master's degree in organization and management from Capella University in Minnesota.
