JU Faculty Honored for Longevity

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University honored four retiring professors and an additional 14 faculty members who have served the University for as many as 20 to 40 years at the 50th annual faculty recognition dinner on March 31.
“Jacksonville University is proud and honored to have retained such gifted professors,” said JU President Kerry Romesburg. “Our outstanding academic programs are the direct result of their teaching, and we will truly miss those who are retiring.”
The four retiring JU faculty members honored were: Dr. Ted Allen, professor of biology since 1961; Dr. Neil Boehnke, professor of chemistry since 1976; Dr. Jay Clarke, professor of history since 1990; and Dr. Ken Hoover professor of biology since 1981.
Those faculty members also recognized for longevity of service were:
Dr. S. Walker Blanton, professor of history, 40 years
Dr. Elizabeth Winstead, professor of social sciences, 40 years
Dr. Jon Carlson, professor of music, 30 years
Ms. Anna Large, associate professor, librarian, 30 years
Dr. Peter Ryan, associate professor of mathematics, 30 years
Dr. Craig Buettinger, professor of history, 25 years
Ms. Carole Cayer, associate professor of nursing, 25 years
Dr. Hassan Pordeli, professor of economics and finance, 25 years
Dr. Fred C. Senftleber, professor of chemistry, 25 years
Dr. Paul R. Simony, professor of physics, 25 years
Dr. Richard J. Gibson, professor of English, 20 years
Dr. Sherri Jackson, professor of psychology, 20 years
Mr. David Jones, assistant professor, librarian, 20 years
Dr. Barry Thornton, professor of economics, 20 years
Dr. Margaret Janz was also honored for her years of service by being named Professor Emerita of Education.
