11/7/2007

Jacksonville, Fla.—Dr. Barbara Doyle, professor of computer information systems, received Jacksonville University’s Institutional Excellence Award for leadership in programming.

Dr. Doyle, who authored: C# Programming: From Analysis to Program Design, Second Edition (Course Technology, 2007) received a $1,000 reward and was recognized at a JU Board of Trustees meeting on September 30, 2007.

Dr. Doyle, who is currently teaching at JU, received her Ph.D. from Florida Institute of Technology and has been teaching programming for more than 20 years. She chaired the department of Computing Sciences at JU from 1992 through 2002. Previous to that, Dr. Doyle taught Computer Information Systems courses at the University of the Cumberlands. She is currently a Computer Science Program Evaluator for ABET-CAC (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology-Computing Accreditation Commission).

Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs Lois Becker said, “Dr. Doyle has composed this book to emphasize active learning, and used active learning to produce the book.  She involved her current students in piloting the exercises.  She is an excellent teacher who continues to experiment in her classroom.  How fitting that she should develop a state-of-the-art textbook.”

Dr. Doyle’s book, C# Programming, introduces a variety of basic programming concepts, from data types and expressions to arrays and collections, all using C# as the programming language. In addition, it includes new, advanced software development features. The second edition has been revised to include new features of Visual C# 2005, including generics and partial classes, so readers receive an up-to-date education on programming.

The Institutional Excellence Award recognizes faculty who are providing leadership in research, education and public service. For more information, call 256-7030.
