RN Lab Assistant




Part-Time / Non-Exempt

Position Description


Position Summary: The RN Lab Assistant works in a team-based environment within the School of Nursing to assist the Skills Lab Director, Nursing Simulation Director, Faculty Coordinator, Faculty and Staff in the operation and maintenance of the nursing lab. The RN Lab Assistant will also serve as a resource for use in the nursing lab by nursing students. Hours vary by semester and will include day, evening and weekend hours.  Hours will be a mandatory 30 hours weekly, to be coordinated with the needs of the Skills lab and Simulation Center. The hours must be approved and scheduled by the Skills Lab and Simulation Directors.



Description of Essential Job Duties:
·                        Check off students for mandatory skills and simulation activities required for   
              curriculum advancement at all levels. i.e. sophomore, junior, and senior
·                        Assist in maintaining nursing lab supplies and inventory
·                        Work in collaboration with student nursing lab assistants and volunteers
·                        Serves as resource mentor for all undergraduate students, including demonstrating nursing techniques
·                        Monitor use of lab and equipment and assist with check out of approved materials
·                        Assist with keeping lab clean and presentable, organization and stocking of supplies
·                        Assist with the preparation of equipment for skills check offs and simulation activities
·                        Engage in student support services as appropriate i.e. care mapping, tutoring
·                        Other duties as deemed necessary





Work Conditions:
·                        Primarily indoors except when traveling between campus buildings
·                        Work is performed under minimum supervision and requires incumbent to exercise independence and discretion
Physical Requirements:
·         Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
·         Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
·         Adequate hearing to perform auscultation assessment skills accurately, communicate effectively in person and by phone
·         No latex allergy



Special Skills:
·                        Exhibits professional communication skills (verbal and written)
·                        Excellent organizational skills
·                        Computer literate


·                        Works well independently and with minimum direction



·         BSN with at least one year of clinical experience
·         ACLS Certification preferred
·         Proficient with demonstration of nursing clinical skills
·         Unencumbered Florida RN License
